Our review:

International Arts Business School was closed due to poor performance. The school, which opened in 2003 in the Wingate Educational Complex, closed in 2015 after just 12 years of operation.

According to the Department of Education, the school was unable to turn around quickly enough to better support student needs. In 2011, it received an F on its Progress Report, placing it among the lowest-ranked schools in the city. Angelo Marra became principal in 2012, after closing Canarsie High School in 2011 for poor performance.

Though the school’s Quality Review reported that a new principal was making improvements in communication and had begun to create a safe culture for students, many students reported on the Learning Environment Survey that they did not feel safe in public spaces or on the property outside the school. Nearly 70 percent of teachers said on the same survey that they would not recommend the school to parents.

Some of the highlights of International Business School’s program were a selection of four foreign languages and senior internships in either business or the arts.
